DIY footswitch!

Here's an easy DIY build. So, you want a classic footswitch for your amp/preamp but you just can't find one that works for you or it's just too expensive? Here's how you can build one all by yourself.
I built a nice 2-button footswitch for a preamp and it has two independent functions: turn the wah effect on and off & de/activate the on-board cabinet simulation. Each function has an LED "On" indicator.

Here are the parts you'll need:
A simple metal/aluminum box
Two mono 1/4" female jacks for the chassis
Two LEDs (any color you like)
Two DPDT heavy duty switches (having 6 pins each)
A 9V battery clip plus a battery
One 220ohm/1W resistor.
Some wire

Here are the tools you'll need:
A 10W Soldering Iron plus solder and soldering grease
A drill plus several drill bits for metal (to drill holes on the box for the leds, jacks, switches)
A clear coat spray (to paint the metal box)
A variable opening wrench (to tighten the jacks-switches)
A philips screwdriver
A good DMM(digital multimeter)

 So, let's begin!
First, you' ll have to measure were the leds, jacks, switches are going to be placed in the box. Make sure you note down the exact spots you'll have to drill with a pencil. The jacks and switches require some space inside the box so don't put them too close.
Then, drill the holes for the components and clean the surface. Spray a clear coat or any color you like on the drilled box to protect it from the elements.
Now, it's time for some soldering!
Here is the schematic you' ll have to use for the classic 2-button f/s I built but your own pedal may be a totally different circuit. So make sure you get the right schematic before soldering anything!
Once you've soldered everything, connect a fresh 9V battery and check that everything works properly using a DMM(digital multimeter).
Finally, place everything inside the metal box without shorting anything and make sure the f/s works. Connect it to your amp via shielded guitar cables and stomp it! You 're ready to rock

Mods:
-You can use a DC supply for the pedal instead of a battery. Just calculate the Led resistor so that you don't burn the leds:

-You can hard wire the f/s shielded cables to the metal box but I wouldn't recommend it as cables tend to fail, especially when hardwired and the you got to unsolder them... What if that happens in a live situation?... If you use the jacks and a cable fails, just plug a new cable on the footswitch and it's ready to play again!
