Here's the easiest modification for the boss MT-2 "metal zone" pedal.
This pedal has quite some gain and lead but I noticed a bit of "tone sucking" while using the pedal with a strat guitar. It was as if I had turned down the tone pot a bit, only my strat didn't have a tone pot!....
So, I searched for the MT-2 schematic and found that there is an input low-pass filter inside. This filter is the "tone sucker" as it reduces the input signal high frequencies and makes the sound a bit muddy even at low gain settings.
Here's the schematic (click images to enlarge):
And here's the pcb layout:
The MOD:
You just have to unsolder and remove the C35 capacitor! That's it!
The result:
You will notice some extra highs and the pedal will sound a bit more "open" and less "muddy/muffled". The mod is completely reversible as you can put back the C35 capacitor and make it stock again!
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Thanos
