The good:
The specs mentioned are pretty interesting, especially if we take the price tag under consideration. This guitar was bought via amazon.de for around 109Euros (shipping cost included)! The store I think was called "MPM music". http://www.amazon.de/Jazz-Blues-E-Gitarre-Semi-Acoustic/dp/B002QKYQHA/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1392902052&sr=1-1&keywords=MPM
For this kind of money, the guitar is worth every penny. The pickups sound great and it's got a Gibson like tone that no brand new Epiphone of this price range could ever achieve. The neck joint is perfect, long tenon and ultra comfortable. It's more comfortable than the ltd/esp eclipse or "EC series" access joints. There were a few issues though.
The bad:
The guitar came in with no setup at all... We tried to tune it using the stock strings but the playability was just awful. We put a new set of 0,09" strings on and set the guitar up for lower action and better intonation. The playability was now way better but there were a few dead or buzzing notes around the fretboard... Next step: fret leveling. I removed the strings and decided to level the frets a bit to ensure all frets are even. After I filled the frets with the straight edge file, the dead notes disappeared. I polished the frets, cleaned the fretboard and oiled it. A fret leveling job is not too cheap when done by a pro guitar tech but most guitars need this job done at some point in their life. Most brand new guitars sold today should be taken at a guitar shop or a guitar technician for a setup and maybe a mild fret leveling job. A used guitar should definitely get that kind of treatment unless the previous owner has taken really good care of it.
Modifications:
Once the frets were ready, the guitar was ready for a few mods! As you noticed, I rarely keep a guitar in its original form so I couldn't make an exception for this one! The back of the neck was sanded down and a coat of satin lacquer was applied. The neck feels quicker now! The black plastic pickup rings and speed knobs were changed. I placed 4 top-hat golden knobs on its pots and cream pickup rings. The electronics were left in their stock form as they sound great! This is a value for money guitar made for the DIYer or someone who wants a high spec Asian-made guitar at an ultra low price. Avoid chinese "chibson" LP replicas, this is the guitar copy to buy!
