Here's a new telecaster project I recently built for a friend of mine. Here are the specs of the guitar:
-Maple/rosewood strat neck with "CBS-era" style headstock. 60's style "oval" neck profile, 21 frets.
-Custom routed basswood 3 piece sunburst body
-Wilkinson P90 ceramic hot pickups
-Custom made angled tele bridge
The project started as a new body and neck that were made in China. I routed the body and the white pickguard for the new set of P90s. The neck wasn't finished so I sprayed a satin clear coat on it. Then I leveled and polished the frets to get a nice medium-low action, oiled the fretboard, installed a nut and a set of "Grover" type tuners on the neck.
The bridge started as a standard modern tele bridge and we cut it in order to match the new pickup routing.
The electrics are not the standard tele ones. We decided to go for a set of "Gibson style" 500K Alpha pots, a 22nF tone cap and a 3-way Goeldo lp switch.
The guitar was finally put together and set up with a set of 0.009"-0.042" strings. The action and intonation came out really good and the guitar plays and sounds great. The ceramic P90 Wilkinson pickups are hot but they certainly have this classic single-coil tone. It's like boosting a classic set of AlNiCo P90s a bit.
Here are a few pictures taking during the build:
