Here 's a new 80's inspired guitar project! It's an "Evh" style strat guitar that combines classic and modern features such as a classic shaped strat headstock and a H-S-H pickup configuration. The project started as a loaded "evh theme" great looking body from "Magma guitars". Then we bought an all maple 22 fret guitar neck from ebay for 40$ (!) and we decided to make a parts-caster.
The neck was well made and ready to be placed on a fender style body. It had nice shiny frets and there was no buzz or anything. The neck came in lacquered and highly polished too!
The only obstacle was that the neck pocket was too tight for the neck to fit in. Therefore, I routed out the pocket with a dremmel tool. A new set of closed type tuners was placed on the headstock and the guitar was finally ready for a setup.
The result is awesome! The guitar is really smooth to play, there's no fret buzz, the nut is well lubricated, the sound is well balanced with no feedback or noises and there are plenty of smooth and hot tones available with these open coil HSH pickups. In terms of playability, this partscaster guitar is as good as any mexican made strat (and I 've tested and set up quite a few mex strats) even though it costs half as much.
Here are a few pictures:
