Laney VC-15 retube

The laney vc-15 is a highly portable and quite versatile little tube amp. It's made in the UK and it produces 15 Watts of power via two el84 tubes and a Jensen 10" speaker. The preamp structure is quite similar to a marshall jcm800 master vol. preamp.
It's got 2 channels(clean&dirty), 2 clean modes(bright/clean), a 3-band EQ, reverb and master volume. Ycan easily get a nice sweet overdrive a really low volumes and keep it clean at high volumes using the gain, volume and master controls!
On the back of the amp, there's an fx loop with variable sensitivity, a footswitch jack and an external speaker connection. Plugging a 2X12" cabinet on the external speaker output is what I enjoyed the most. Even my 50W high gain amp got a little jealous... It's like hearing a 50W marshall head roaring and my celestion Vintage30s were really pumping air. With a few preamp mods and the right set of tubes, the vc15 (and lc15) Laney can get all the Marshall jcm style tone at a lower wattage of course.
Inside the amp, there's a bias adjust and a "hum balance" trimmer. A tech could easily set the bias according to the power tubes used and keep the 50/60Hz hum really low using the hum balance pot.
  Retube:
The stock el84 power tubes are made by TAD (in China) while the three 12AX7s are no-name Chinese made tubes. The preamp was quite microphonic when the amp came in, so we swapped the old no-names for three new Gold EH12ax7s! The Electro Harmonix Gold series tubes have such a sweet tone and their build quality is superb. The amp sounds more open and brighter than before.
