A friend of mine brought in this guitar in parts. The body was refinished in glossy fuchsia pink. The guitar had no pickups or electronics on it but it had the original keys and hardware (neckplate etc). There were quite a few parts missing but I managed to order new ones from all around the world...
Working on the guitar:
At first, I refinished the back of the maple neck in satin clear. The next step was to bolt the neck on the body. The original neck plate and two new strap buttons were placed on the body. When the new Quad rail pickups arrived, I installed them on the body. We decided not to use the original plastic pickup rings and bolted the pickups directly inside the pickup cavities.
Electronics:
A 500K linear push pull pot and a Korean-made 3-way toggle switch were installed inside the electronics cavity. The push pull pot acts as a volume control and it splits the humbuckers when pulled up. These quad rail humbucker produce no hum noise when split as there are four coils on them. Dual coil humbuckers produce hum when split into single coils.
The new output jack was placed on the black jack plate and I did the wiring.
Final touches and setup:
Once all the electronics were wired up, I installed the Floyd rose tremolo system on the body. The new claw and springs were adjusted and the guitar was ready for a fresh set of strings.
The guitar was set up with a fresh set of 0,09" strings. The string action is low and the intonation is spot on!
The neck is ultra comfortable and the Quad coil pickups have all the output power to make this guitar sing. The black metallic parts match the glam fuchsia colour of the body. The inlays on the neck are just unique. This is a shredding machine and it's made for some serious soloing action!
Cheers,
