Here's a beautiful Ibanez RG prestige model in silver crackle finish. This RG model is crafted in Japan. The guitar came in for a few electronic modifications and it had a few issues as it has already been modified in the past. A Fernandez Sustainer system has been installed and the original middle and neck pickups were totally removed. The pickup selector had been replaced with a 3-way fender style switch and the bridge pickup has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker™ SH-13:

The Sustainer pickup system consists of a neck pickup, a (pcb) circuit board that's placed inside the control cavity of the guitar, a 9V battery, a special on/off 1/4" output jack and a couple of external "ON" and "mode" switches. This system has 2 or 3 modes of operation for a variety of tones and effects.

My job was to reinstall an original ibanez single-coil pickup in the middle position. Therefore, the pickup selector had to be replaced with a 5-way switch. Also, the wiring of the guitar had to be redone. With the Sustainer system already installed on the guitar, the wiring is a bit tricky and extra attention has to be paid!
First, I removed the strings and luckily the tremolo system was locked with a tremol-no bar. Then, I removed the bridge pickup. I placed the new middle pickup inside the pickup cavity, guided its cable through the cable channels of the guitar. Once I bolted the middle p/u in place, I reinstalled the bridge pickup. It was time to replace the pickup selector!
The new 5-way selector came from Korea and it is an "Alpha" brand switch. It is superior to most Chinese-made affordable switches. I studied the schematics and wiring diagrams of the Fernandez sustainer system and then rewired all the electronics. Once I tested the wiring I noticed that the bridge pickup was out of phase with the neck and middle pickup. So, I reversed the bridge pickup "hot and cold" leads while keeping the shield wire attached to ground. The guitar was then set up properly with a new set of strings and it was ready for some amazing soloing!

Great article. I found you looking for Boss GT5 information, and you have info on the GT6, but anyway, I had to look at your stuff. Great articles. I've got a few projects myself I've worked on including a Strat style classic guitar, Charvel with different pickups, etc,. Thanks so much. Great article.
