Restoration:
Once I got the guitar, there were only a few minor problems that had to be addressed. The first was to old metallic nut. It was worn out and the Allen locks didn't really work. So I installed a new Floyd rose metallic black nut on the neck.
Neck refinish:
The next issue that had to be taken care of was the back of the maple neck. The maple was a bit stained over the years and it couldn't be cleaned. So I decided to refinish the neck in satin clear. At first, I sanded down the old clear coat and the stain was gone. Then, I resprayed the neck in satin clear and it looks brand new! Then, I polished the frets, cleaned the fretboard and oiled it.
The single volume pot was a bit old and scratchy. So I replaced it with a push pull 500K linear pot. Here's why I used the push pull function for: you've noticed there is no neck pickup on this guitar. Therefore, I decided to create a switchable low-pass filter circuit using the push pull pot and a 10nF ceramic capacitor. Once the pot is pulled up, the tone capacitor is grounded and the bridge pickup sounds sweet and mellow, almost like a neck pickup. That's a "neck pickup simulation" mod.
Once the guitar was put back together, I set it up with a fresh set of 9-42 coated strings. The playability is amazing! This is a high quality instrument and it's made for serious soloing and shredding!
